Young Brits dream of solid careers rather than creative or caring professions, a study from John Lewis Insurance has found.
The number one childhood ambition of 18-35s was to be a vet. The typical salary for this job is £31,152 a year, according to PayScale.
And 18-35-year-olds were more keen on becoming an accountant than either of the previous generations.
So far they are achieving their well-paid dream – one in 20 young Brits are accountants, compared to one in 33 for older generations.
Varun Khanna, from careers site Fish4Jobs, said: “We’ve definitely seen an increase in interest in accountancy roles on Fish4Jobs. Accountancy is the eighth most-searched term and it makes up a huge share of applications.
“The number of jobs in the sector is rising, and you can get a job anywhere in the UK. Many roles have a starting salary of £25,000. This can grow up to £45,000 once you’ve gained qualifications.
